Rehoming Process
Sometimes people find themselves in a situation where they an no longer keep their rabbit(s) and they must make the difficult decision to rehome them. There are many circumstance that may bring an owner to this point however the main thing to consider is how to ensure they are safely rehomed. By surrendering rabbits over to a reputable rescue center, you are ensuring the rabbit(s) are cared for correctly, given the treatment needed, and the right forever homes are found for them. It truly is the best and safest way to rehome. Websites like Craigslist and Facebook marketplace have been known to host predatory buyers, so we advise people to make an informed decision.
Please contact us when you are first starting to struggle or having to contemplate rehome. We are often quite full and it’s best if we have notice so we can ensure we have space available. If you are struggling with a behavioral concern or you’re in need of assistance with a difficult issue, please contact us. We are happy to provide support and advice.
If the rabbit(s) were adopted through Amy’s Bunny Barn, as per our signed contract, please always contact us to rehome as we are committed to our rabbits for their lifetime. We do not want our adopted bunnies to be rehomed without our involvement.
Animals are admitted by appointment only, unless it is a special circumstance. Our ability to help you may be affected by the number of animals in our care and available space. If the rescue is at capacity, you will be added to our wait list, and we will contact you when we have space available.
If you take in a rabbit from someone or somewhere and contact us to take the rabbit, we will assess the urgency and if we are at capacity, we will add them to the waitlist. If you take the rabbit in yourself, you must be prepared to quarantine it, keep it safe, and care for them until there is a space available at the rescue.
Please complete the surrender request form below and provide as much information as possible. We do not have a set surrender fee but do suggest contributing to their cost of care by making a donation. We spay or neuter and vaccinate each rabbit that comes into care. We rely on donations to continue helping animals and people in need of our services.

Due to an influx in returns and surrenders it can take a couple weeks to 6 months.

You will be contacted when a space is going to be available. Then you will have a date arranged to bring your rabbit(s) and their belongings to us. You will have 24 hours to respond as we cannot hold spaces longer due to the number of rabbits needing our help.

Any vet records, their belongings, and if you can offer a surrender donation it helps greatly towards their care and treatment.

Your rabbit will initially be placed into quarantine until all the correct vaccinations have been had (ideally you will have your rabbit already vaccinated but this may not be the case). The rabbit(s) then receive any needed vet care and treatment required including neutering/spaying, health checks, blood tests, and behavioural assessment. They will have their treatment with us and have time for recovery. They may then stay with us at the rescue or go out to one of our foster homes where they will be cared for until we have matched them up to the right home, bonded with another rabbit(s), or they are adopted.

Yes. We ensure the rabbits go to their forever homes when adopted. Our adoption process is thorough, and we ensure we find the best suitable match for each rabbit. We then stay in touch with all our adopters for support and advice, and we even have a support group to see how they are all getting on. Many of them return and holiday board with Amy’s Bunny Retreat & Spa regularly too. If anything should ever change in circumstances, the rabbits would be returned to our rescue.

Due to privacy protection laws and policies we are not allowed to pass any details onto the new owners. You will sign a surrender contract to state you hand over the rights to the rabbit(s) to the rescue. In some circumstances the adopters may agree to keeping in touch, but that decision will be up to them.

Yes. We do offer transportation and we can make arrangements with you once the surrender is arranged.
